Elgin is a large city located in northern Illinois. It is positioned in Cook and Kane counties. According to the United States Census Bureau, Elgin had a population of approximately 112,123 people in 2016. Elgin is the 9th largest city in the State of Illinois.

Before James T. and Hezekiah Gifford arrived in the area of present-day Elgin, it was occupied by Native American Indians. The Indian tribes used the area for hunting and camping. After the Gifford’s arrived, accompanied by Samuel Jewett Kimball, a new city was settled. James T. Gifford named the city in honor of a Scottish psalm. Gifford is quoted as saying “I had been a great admirer of that tune from boyhood, and the name Elgin had ever fallen upon my ear with musical effects.” Since its founding, Elgin has continued to grow and has been home to many successful businesses and individuals.
